Tulipa tarda bulbs

[Photo: Tulipa tarda]Tulipa tarda, known in English as "tarda tulip" or "species tulip" and in French as tulipe tarda or tulipe botanique, are bulbous perennials native to Turkey and the surrounding area. Unlike the usual hybrid tulips, species tulips will self-sow and are more perennial in nature (hybrids may come back in future years but often decline). Tarda tulips are petite plants with showy 6-petalled star-shaped flowers in yellow with white tips.

  1. These always make a great display in one of my very tough areas, a dry sandy slope, albeit sunny. The ones planted closer to the Norway maple roots and in more shade aren't as lusty. But what a great picture they make when in bloom. Good luck with yours.

  2. Does anyone know where can I find tulipa tarda bulbs? I live in Waterloo, Ontario. We have been looking for a few years and they don't seem to be very common.

  3. Hi Debbie,
I bought mine online from Veseys. They seem to be sold only in the fall.
