Two weeks after sowing, the coleus seedlings are starting to develop their different colours.

Rosemary, you are to be commended in your seediness. I love the chartreuse 'Wizard' coleus (can never remember the Latin: Solenostemon, solenostemon, repeat till it sticks), which is sometimes difficult to find in the garden centre.
ReplyDeleteSome of my other favorite hard-to-find coleus are 'Inky Fingers'(especially the green) and one whose cultivar I can't accurately recall the name of, but which might be 'Lines' -- charteuse green with a fine stripe along the ribs. Have you ever grown these?

ReplyDeleteLast time I grew coleus was over twenty years ago and I don't remember the cultivars.
You can get individual rather than mixed Wizard series coleus seeds from Stokes, perhaps including the chartreuse one you're thinking of (not sure if it's 'Golden Wizard' or 'Jade Wizard' (my favourite)).
I couldn't find a coleus called 'Lines', but maybe you're thinking of 'Fishnet Stockings'?
Coleus Finder is a neat website to find information about over a thousand types of coleus (go here to search by appearance). Some of the most interesting cultivars can be propagated by cuttings only, not seed, for example 'Stella Red'.
