Sedum spurium: foliage

Sedum spurium, known in English as "rock cress" or "two-row stonecrop" and in French as orpin bâtard, is a perennial succulent groundcover native to eastern Europe.

The landlords' kids and I rescued these plants from a neighbourhood garden that was being replaced by sod. This sedum is very forgiving; just break off a piece, stick in in the dirt, and it will grow!

Sedum 'Autumn Joy': new spring growth

Sedum 'Autumn Joy' is a hybrid of different Sedum (stonecrop) species popular in Toronto gardens for providing true four-season interest with minimal care.

I was pleasantly surprised to see these little rosettes of new growth at the base of last winter's stems. (Only the top 2-3 cm of ground has thawed here.)

Sedum 'Autumn Joy' is a hybrid of different Sedum (stonecrop) species popular in Toronto gardens for providing true four-season interest with minimal care. Here is a clump of Autumn Joy seedheads, persisting well into winter despite heavy snowfall. I find it amazing that such slender stems can support such large clumps of snow.
